“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,”                                                                                            Ephesians 3:20 KJV

I am sure if you go to church, you have heard this passage used as a benediction at the end of a worship service. But have you ever thought about what it actually means? Have you ever thought about the astounding implications of this passage?

According to this passage, God is able to do, not just more, but exceeding abundantly above! Exceeding means God is able to go beyond the limits! Abundantly means God is able to provide more than enough! And “above” means that whatever the exceeding and abundant is, God is able to do even beyond that! Wow! That’s amazing! God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think? Do you know what that means? That means there is nothing you or I can ask or think of that is beyond God’s ability to do! That means our wildest dreams are mild in comparison to what God is actually able to do!

Now, the last part of the passage states a condition! God is able to do all of this, but God is able to do it according to the power that works in us! And what is that power that works in us? It is faith! Jesus said: “All things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23 KJV) You must activate the power of faith in your life! Most of the people I know, even those who claim to be Christians, are living boring and defeated lives! They have no power and no joy in their lives! Why? Because of the lack and littleness of their faith! Oh! What peace we often forfeit! Oh! What needless pains we bear! All because we have little or no faith in God’s ability and willingness to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think! I think that much of the problem lies in the fact that they focus too much on their problems and not enough on their God! You see, whatever you focus on and whatever captures your attention will grow and multiply in your life! Most people spend their time looking at their problems instead of looking at their God! As a consequence, their problems appear to be bigger and greater than their God! So when they pray, they don’t have the faith they need for God to do anything spectacular in their lives!

But just think about this for a second! The God we say we believe in is the same God that created the universe! The God we say we believe in is the same God that created the world and everything therein! Surely, if God was able to do all of that, then God is able to help us with our minute problems! But for many people, it is really not a question of whether God is able; they believe God is able, they just don’t think God is willing! But the Apostle Paul wrote to the Romans: “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? (Romans 8:32 NLT) In other words: God gave us Jesus and that was the greatest gift that God could give! Therefore, since God has already given us the greatest; it’s no big deal for God to give us any and everything else!

So the question is not in God’s ability, nor is it in God’s willingness, the question is in our faith! The $64,000 question is: Can you believe? Will you believe? Now, God operates in our lives according to our faith, but God is not restricted in God’s overall activities by our faith! God is even greater than our faith! Our lack of faith does not hinder God from blessing; but it does hinder us from receiving God’s blessing!

I felt led to write this post because somebody reading this post needs to know that God is greater! God is greater than any problem you might be experiencing in your life! God is greater than any situation or circumstance you might be facing right now! I don’t care what it is; God is greater! But if you want God to help you; you’ve got to shift your focus from your problems and focus on your God! As you pray, thank God in advance for God’s help! Stir up the gift of faith that is in you by reading the Bible and other inspiring books! Hear the word of God preached and the testimony of others who have overcome great difficulties in their lives by the power of faith!

As you consistently do this, you will begin to experience a joy and an excitement in your life that you’ve never experience before! You will begin to do great exploits and people will be amazed at your calmness and peace in the midst of the storms of life! Your Christian walk will be much more than just the routine trip to church once a week, it will be a daily walk with the Lord wherein you and God are routinely slaying Goliath and the other giants that used to defeat you! No! Your life doesn’t have to be dull and boring! You don’t have to settle for a life of defeat and mediocrity! You can walk in joy and victory, once you realize and internalize the fact that God is able and willing to do exceeding abundantly above all that you can ask or think, according to the power that is at work in you!
